Art is offered as part of the Bream Bay College curriculum. There are many opportunities for students to enter their exhibits for display and/or competitions.

Art and Tartan

Annual Smokefree Rock Quest

Bream Bay college participates in the Annual Smokefree Rock Quest competition. Historically we have won numerous awards at Regional and National levels.

Debating

Bream Bay College has a history of being a leading Debating and public speaking school in Northland. Intermediate, Junior and Senior Debaters regularly compete in competitions organised within and beyond Northland.

 

 

Design and Visual Communication (Graphics)

Students can develop their skills in Design and Visual Communication using the latest technology. Some examples of students creations are architectural design and display models.

 

 

 

 

Digital Technologies

Digital Technologies focuses on understanding, developing and using digital software, hardware and electronic systems across a range of contexts including school, the home and wider community settings. Bream Bay College Digital Technologies Website

 

 

 

Drama

The college has produced some very successful drama productions such as "The Three Musketeers" and "Charades" and more recently "In the Beginning - I Te Timatanga." We make the most of the acting and musical abilities of large groups of students of all ages. The College has entered the Stage Challenge since 2003 and produced a multi-cultural concert "Te Tuinga" since 2002.

 

 

Fabrics

Bream Bay College offers students the opportunity of creating their own design in Fabrics Technology.

 

 

 

 

Food Technology

Food Technology is an exciting option at Bream Bay College. Students are given the opportunity create and showcase their culinary skills.

 

 

 

 

Hard Materials Technology

Hard Materials Technology offers many different variations of developing students skills in the art of design and build. This includes anything from surfboards to guitars to cabinetry.

 

 

 

Kapahaka

Membership of our highly professional Te Roopu Kapahaka (Maori Cultural Group) is open to all interested and enthusiastic students. This group participates with distinction in the annual Tai Tokerau Cultural Festival and in other cultural events both locally in the Bream Bay Area and Northland. They also take a leading role in powhiri for school visitors. Kia rongo ai te waiata e waiata ana e ona ano tohunga. To hear the song that is sung by those who are masters of it.

 

Music

Music is a huge strength at Bream Bay College. All students are encouraged to develop an interest in music. Small tuition groups are available for all modern instruments, including jazz. The College offers vocal, drums, guitar and bagpipe tuition to students. We have many accomplished musicians among our students including members of the Whangarei Youth Music Concert Band and the Whangarei and Waipu Pipe Bands. Each year we hold a Junior and Senior Music night where our School Bands and Vocalist perform for our community.

 

Speeches

Speech making occupies a central place in the English Curriculum. Each year class competitions take place. These competitions generate a great deal of interest amongst staff, students and parents. The opportunity for students to participate in a range of local and national competitions is available.

 

 

Stage Challenge

The College has entered the annual Stage Challenge since 2003. This is a student based global event involving dance, design and drama reflecting the personalities, concerns, hopes, dreams and interests of students.

 

 

 

Te Tuinga

Each year we hold a Te Tuinga concert to showcase the talents of our students in the area of Performing Arts. This includes performances from Kapa Haka, Dance, Drama, Music and Singing.
