Bream Bay College welcomes students from all over the world.  Our International Student Programme is specially set up to mentor, educate and care for our overseas students.  With our unique Restorative School approach,  warm friendly students, a safe environment, with excellent Pastoral and Academic tracking systems, a close-knit semi-tropical environment near a fantastic beach, and a rapidly expanding local community we are very well placed to offer overseas students a unique and varied learning experience.  Auckland is only an hour and a half away by road.

Mr Mark Bayer, one of our Deputy Principals, is overseeing the International Student programme together with Mrs Beverley Webb, Manager of Support Staff and Principal’s Secretary.

Mark has taught English for over 23 years (as well as Social Studies).  He has a basic knowledge of French and German and is widely travelled.  Mark has lived in India for two years, Germany for a year, the USA for a year as well as extended periods in France, Italy and Nepal.  He understands the issues which International students face when integrating into an English speaking school and a new culture.  Mark is married to a teacher and has two daughters.  He has taught at Bream Bay College for 8 years.

Mrs Beverley Webb, International Student Liaison, provides administration support to the International Student Programme.  Beverley liaises with the International Agency representing the student and ensures that the correct documentation is provided.  She arranges regular visits for the agent to speak with herself and Mark Bayer regarding the progress of the international student and assists and coordinates with the selection of a Homestay family.  Beverley has lived in Australia for 9 years and travelled extensively during that time to the UK, Europe, Hong Kong, Fiji and the South Pacific.  Her experience in dealing with many different cultures gives her the understanding of international students relocating into a new culture.  Beverley has enjoyed her role as Principal’s Secretary, Manager of Support Staff and International Student Liaison over her 14 years at Bream Bay College.  Beverley has two children, a son at University studying Marine Design and a daughter studying NCEA Level 2 at Bream Bay College.  She has lived in Ruakaka for 19 years with her husband who works locally in the area.

Why us?

Bream Bay College is a very good school as our Education Review Report (ERO) report will attest to.  We have an innovative Restorative Behaviour Management system, excellent I.C.T programmes, warm and friendly students and very good academic tracking systems.  Our NCEA results are above the national averages.  What makes us unique is we are a Year 7 to 13 College of 450 students situated in a beautiful area near the seaside.  There is a very wide range of co-curricula activities available ranging from sailing, surf life-saving, surfing, sport through to snow-skiing on our annual Mt. Ruapehu trip.    Last year a large group travelled to Europe for a sporting exchange.  There are regular curriculum trips to Fiji and an exchange visit to Japan every 2nd year.  The staff are friendly and dedicated, and able to give the personal one-on-one help that comes with smaller classes and a close-knit school community. One of our recent International students, Midori Matsumura, has even become a New Zealand citizen and is doing very well in her tertiary studies as a Photographer.
